Biomass selection plays a crucial role in driving lignocellulosic ethanol production to be cost competitive with fossil fuels. The agronomic traits, cell wall composition and biomass enzymatic digestibility are defined as major factors for biomass quality in sweet sorghum. In this study, correlations among above three major factors were analyzed in total 124 sweet sorghum varieties. The results reveal that dry matter and soluble sugar are strongly correlated to total sugar production.Hemicelluloses and lignin levels displayed a distinctive effect on biomass digestibility. The data can also provide clues to the guiding of sweet sorghum genetic modification and breeding for bio-ethanol production.
