There is an increasing need to find new classes of antibacterial with activity against multidrug-resistant (MDR) variants of bacteria.Amongst these pathogens,clinically problematic species include methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA),extensively drug-resistant (XDR) Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Gram-negative bacteria such as MDR Acinetobacter baumannii which are exceptionally difficult to treat and eradicate.
