The effects of heavy metal-resistant bacterial strain USTB-H on Cu accumulation, plant growth and reduction ion toxicity to hyperaccumutator Commelina communis were investigated. The bacteria strain was isolated from Cu-contaminated soils and identified as Stenotrophomonas sp.based on the 16S rDNA gene sequence analysis. The result from uptake and distribution of Cu in bacterial cells indicated that a significant proportion of the total available Cu ions adhered to the surface of the cell wall instead of completely entering the cells. The next study revealed that approximately 76.5% of Cu ions absorbed by strain were distributed intracellularly, whereas the other proportions bound to the cell membrane and cell wall. After inoculation with C.communis for 20 days, the isolate was observed to promote Cu uptake, growth and antibiotic resistance ability of the plants.
