Nowadays environmental issues such as climate change bring severe challenges to humankind’s existence.With the rapid development of space science &technology,remote sensing that can offer accurate,frequent and almost instantaneous data over large areas anywhere in the world is inherently useful for human being to cope with the environmental issues.On March of 2008,during International Academy of Astronautics Working Conference,Chinese Academicians proposed to use aerospace technology to meet human demands,which resulted in the raise of Cooperation Program for Global environmental Impact 2030.In 2009,board of Trustees of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA) was approved to establish a Study Group 4.11 on Cooperation Program for Global Environmental Impact (IAA-SGEI).The main task of this study group is to coordinate with the ongoing IAA study group 4.7 and study group 4.9 to identify opportunities for and challenges to the exploitation of earth observation data from space to cope with the environmentaldisasters,recommend the important and possible directions for future global environmental observation and develop an extendable framework for top-level scientific questions that focus the environmental observations in the period of 2010-2020.
