Mullite, amorphous silica and ferruginous spheres are contained in high-alumina fly ash (HAFA) which is generated from coal-fired power in Inner Mongolia, China Nowadays, many research works focus on the extraction of alumina and preparation of Al-Si composite, in which the removal of amorphous silica is a necessary treatment. In term of the quantitative analysis of amorphous silica, the quantitative analysis of mild chemical treatment is promoted, which provides an accurate and quantitative analysis for the amorphous silica. In this work, a novel method "acid and alkali combination" is promoted. The solid and liquid components are examined by the X-ray fluorescence spectrometer and the inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometer respectively. The mineral composition and appearance are determined by the X-ray diffractometer and scanning electronic microscope respectively. The results indicate that the ratio between amorphous silica and the whole silica ranges from 57%-58%.The XRD pattern shows that the peak of amorphous silica has disappeared, at the same time, SEM indicates that the mullite enwrapped by the amorphous silica is exposed and the amorphous phase has been removed.
