Conventional wet textile pretreatment and finishing procedures applied in the textile industry for producing high qualitative end products. This industry is a high water-consuming and often characterized by the use of different types of specialty chemicals. For producing one ton of textiles about 100-250 m3 water is used.Surfactants are considered a very important group of textile auxiliaries, which are consumed by various wet textile pretreatment and finishing processes of fabrics.Adsorption of surfactants at textile interfaces has an important role in many interfacial processes such as detergency, wetting, and dispersion. For instance, in textile dyeing, using surfactant in the dyeing bath, polyester/cotton blends can be dyed in a single-bath, one-stage process with mixtures of reactive dyes.Applications of the surfactants in all phases of textile wet processing have been the aim of various studies. The purpose of this review reports the current research and potential applications of surfactants in textile dyeing and finishing.
