The development of advanced hydrogen storage materials and/or technologies for on-board applications is one of the key barriers for realizing the hydrogen economy.1 Research efforts mainly focus on materials composed of light elements and with high hydrogen content.Sodium alanate (NaAlH-4) has attracted considerable attention as a potential hydrogen storage medium, owing to its favourable combination of intrinsic high hydrogen content and moderate thermal stability.
