Humans have evolved close symbiotic relationships with numerous bacterial species,which can affect host physiology and even be associated with diseases.The oral microbiota are no exceptions.With the development of more rapid and accurate molecular techniques,systems biology approaches based on next generation ‘omics’ technologies are now able to describe the oral microbiome at both genetic and functional levels.
