Background Serum bilirubin has been associated with colorectal cancer; however, no information is available for the association between bilirubin and lymph node metastasis (LNM).Our study was designed to determine the independent association with pathological LNM (pLNM) and prognostic significance of serum direct bilirubin in rectal cancer, after exclusion of the known hepatobiliary and pancreatic diseases.
