The challenge of connecting significant amounts of onshore capacity to the energy hungry eastern coastal regions as well as a desire to diversify energy sources has led to an increasing interest on offshore wind as a potential new source of renewable energy close to the demand in China.To fill the knowledge gap of its environmental performance,a life cycle assessment was conducted to the Donghai Bridge offshore wind farm built in 2009,the first offshore wind project in China and in Asia as well,with particular focus on energy consumption,greenhouse gas emission and three kinds of air pollutants (SO2,NOX,PM2.5).Comparison analysis was also made between the offshore wind farm system and onshore system as well as other renewable power systems,to draw out similarities and differences and lessons for the China offshore wind industry.
