The European "Floods" Directive (Directive 2007/60/EU) asks Member States to develop Flood Risk Management Plans (FRMPs) by 2015.These plans must be based on flood hazard maps and flood risk maps and should address all aspects of flood risk management, taking into account costs and benefits of proposed mitigation tools.

For unsteady flow problems, such as propagation of flood waves in open channels, simplified models, know as kinematic, diffusion and quasi-steady, are widely used instead of solving the full dynamic m
Many countries globally have experienced considerable changes in their climatic and meteorological conditions, leading to extreme inundation extent and increased frequency in flooding.
Waterworks are designed using probability distribution functions accepting the hypothesis that climatic and hydrological variables are stationary, meaning that their statistical properties are constan
Ensemble generation of probable true rainfall is an elegant solution to characterize the uncertainty of radar precipitation estimation.
The effects of gravity waves on shear instability in compound channels are investigated.Scale analysis of the shallow water equations shows that the shear instability depends on the two Froude numbers
This experimental research aims to investigate a real-scale system comprising both surface and sewer drainage under different flows, namely the effects of a linking element gully-drop manhole on the f

Floods and droughts are normal phenomena, but with great influence from anthropological activities and climate change, they are causing great havoc worldwide.
