Metallic materials, which have inherent high thermal conductivities, fulfill most of the criteria for microreactor providing an optimal heat control during exothermic and endothermic reactions. However, atmospheres with carbon activities above unity (ac ≥ 1) may result in dramatic corrosion phenomena, carburization/metal dusting (MD), that compromise the microreactor performances.Catalytic processes leading to coke formation considerably decrease the induction period of the MD phenomena.
