Background: In the southeast and eastern regions of Asia,Penicillium species are becoming ever-increasing causal agents of invasive infections.We herein report a case of a 56-year-old patient with type 2 diabetes who developed a nodular cavity in the left lung caused by Penicillium marneffei.Case presentation: A 56-year-old Chinese man with a indeterminate history of type 2 diabetes developing to peripheral neuropathy already was admitted complaining of recurrent episodes of coughing and fever.The therapeutic effect of anti-infection or anti-tuberculosis is poor.
