Ion channels selective for potassium (K+ channels) are involved in fine-tuning a plethora of physiological functions, such as the action potential duration and frequency of excitable cells, the transmitter release of neurons, the release of insulin of beta cells of the pancreas, and solute transport of kidney cells.Malfunction of K+ channel function can result in many different diseases, such as cardiac arrhythmias,epilepsy, diabetes, and nephropathies.
