Mechanical LVAD is a todays widespread method,first introduced by Kantrowitz in 1961 as IABP.But in the past last years there has been huge increase of methods and instruments,which are used for support of failing heart.There are several options available that clinicians may use to provide support for their patients and thus the choice of devices can be to their individual needs.In our Clinic of Cardiovascular Surgery we are using IABP,Biomedicus centrifugal pump,Levitronix centrifugal pump,Thoratec and Thoratec IVAD pulsatile pump and Heartmate Ⅱ axial pump,depending on the pathophysiology of heart failure and expected stay on device.
