Background: Cigarette smoking is a main cause of preventable diseases and premature death worldwide.Nicotine is the major psychoactive component of tobacco and has broad physiological effects within the central nervous system. However our understanding of the mechanism of nicotine addiction is still limited. In recent years, the application of high-throughput technologies to nicotine addiction study has created massive and complex datasets;and a big challenge is how to obtain the relevan tbiological information from such heterogeneous data sets.Pathway-basedand protein-protein interaction network analyses may provide us an effective way to explore the molecular mechanisms of nicotine addiction.
