This study was designed to confirm the protective effect of intestinal ischemic postconditioning(IPo)protects against intestinal ischemia-reperfusion(IIR)-induced acute kidney injury(AKI)and to elucidate the role of Nrf2/HO-1 signal pathway in renal damage. Here we show that IPo significantly attenuated IIR-induced AKI,suppressed oxidative stress and systemic inflammatory responses.Furthermore, treating IIR-induced AKI with IPo significantly induced heme oxygenase-1(HO-1)and phosphorylation of nuclear factor-erythroid 2 related factor 2(Nrf2).However,Brusatol,a potent inhibitor of Nrf2,significantly reversed the protective effects of IPo against IIR-induced renal damage and ROS generation.Additional experiments revealed that t-BHQ,an activator of Nrf2,could play the similar protective effect as IPo on IIR-induced AKI,suggesting that the IPo protected renal against IIR-induced injury through the Nrf2/HO-1 pathway.
