Since the early 5th millennium BC, ceramics of Susa, an ancient Persian city, were decorated with black or brownish paints fired at high temperatures (900℃-1100℃)1.The samples studied, all dated from the 4th millennium BC (Susa I period), are among the most ancient glazed ceramics known.
