The purpose of this presentation is to describe international collaborative activities in Cambodia.These activities involve 11 Kansai University students who will volunteer to help elementary schools in a rural area.We plan to visit Cambodia twice a year during vacation season,in March and August.Cambodians experienced a civil war 30 years ago.More than one million people were killed at that time.Therefore many adults have not had a school education.They do not understand the importance of educational activities conducted in elementary schools.In addition,because of poverty,children have to work in the fields for their families during the day.As a result,a small percent of students go to school in a village.The objective of our activities is to improve the Cambodian educational environment.In particular,we will focus on a school library working with a nongovernmental organization or NGO.We will supply picture books and provide library training for teachers.Other Kansai university students made a vegetable farm that is part of a foundation.This foundation will give money to maintain the library program and help with management.We hope that the results obtained by carrying out this project will lead to the improvement of the children's literacy.We will analyze the program through interviews,and data obtained to determine,if there is improved interest in education by local residents and children who use the library.
