Understanding the global migration dynamics of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) A/H5N 1 viruses is important in surveillance and disease prevention. In this study, we characterize the migration network of this virus and find evidence for a global persistence model, in which all nine geographic regions in the analysis act to some degree as sources and Siberia is the most important hub for the dispersal of the virus.
