The bentonite-polymer systems are commonly used in the formulation of drilling fluids. The rheological properties of these suspensions based on water are widely modified by the presence of polymers and surfactants. The study of the impact of adding a polymer polyethylene oxide(PEO) of molecular weight 10 000 g/mol at different concentrations on the rheological behavior of the basic suspension(6%of bentonite)has been examined in terms of viscoelastic modulus characteristic of complex fluids.A Physica MCR301 rheometer has been used to measure the rheological properties of these suspensions.measurements on oscillatory mode were made to make the link between the structure of bentonite-PEO blends and the variation of their complex shear modulus G *(w).
