The cyclic AMP receptor protein (CRP) of Escherichia coli which is known to regulate the transcription of over 150 genes is a dimer made up of two identical subunits. Each CRP subunit contains a cyclic nucleotide binding pocket and a DNA binding motif. The protein, allosterically activated by cAMP binding, binds to DNA and interacts with RNA polymerase.
