Tensile behavior along Z-direction in 3D pitch-based carbon/carbon composites was investigated.The preform was of cylindrical weaved construction with rods both in Z and R directions and yams in θ direction.Multiple impregnations, carbonization and graphitization were conducted.Microstructure was examined using an optical microscope (OM) and a scanning electron microscope (SEM).Degree of graphitization was measured by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD) method.
