  Automotive ambient lighting, also known as surrounding illumination and atmosphere illumination, is a kind of illumination with the function of decoration and build up different atmospheres.In this paper, the definition, current status of ambient lighting is introduced.Future trend of ambient lighting is studied considering the special requirement of Chinese market.Control theory and method of automotive ambient lighting is analyzed, proposals and suggestions of ambient lighting control system are given for different car types.A control method for future ambient lighting system is also given as a pre-study.
