Objective The purpose of this study was to evaluate and compare the diagnostic performance of Virtual Touch Imaging Quantification(VTIQ) and Toshiba Imaging(TI) in predicting malignancy thyroid nodules(TNs).Materials and Methods 75 patients with TNs detected by conventional ultrasound (US) underwent VTIQ and TI then fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) were enrolled and analyzed. The maximum, minimum, mean and median of shear wave velocity (SWV) values on VTIQ and TI in lesions were computed (SWV-max, min, mean, median). With cytological results of FNAB adopted as reference standard, area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) analysis was obtained to assess the diagnostic efficiency of VTIQ and TI in differentiation of malignant TNs.Inter-operator and intro-operator consistency were calculated by using Intra-class correlation coefficients. Results Of 75 nodules,26 were papillary thyroid carcinomas (PTC) and 49 were benign.SWV values were statistically higher in malignant than benign lesions both for VTIQ and TI (P<0.05).The AUROC, sensitivity and positive predictive value (PPV) corresponding to SWV-max for TI were significantly higher than that for VTIQ with 0.851 versus 0.717,92.3% versus 65.4% and 94.3% versus 79.1%, respectively (P<0.05).The correlation coefficients were 0.872 and 0.717 tor the inter-operator consistency and 0.925 and 0.946 for the intro-operator consistency with respect to VTIQ and TI, respectively. Conclusion With SWV-max,TI showed inferior performance in comparison with VTIQ in AUROC, sensitivity and PPV values.Repeatable operation of VTIQ and TI were both favorable.
