The marine diatom Chaetoceros mulleri regarded as a potential source of renewable fuel was cultivated with 0.03%,10%,20%,30%CO2.The biomass of the microalgae was 0.512,1.022,0.554 and 0.285g L-1 under 0.03%,10%,20%,30%CO2 concentration,respectively.At 10%CO2,the microalgae showed best growth potential.The total lipids content under 0.03%,10%,20%,30%CO2 concentration were 27.74%,43.40%,35.59%and 38.51%,respectively.The 10%CO2 concentration was also best for the accumulation of total lipids.The main fatty acid compositions of the microalgae were C14:0(>14.41%),C16:0(>19.91%)and C16:1(>37.21%).Increasing the CO2 concentration could increase the unsaturated degree in fatty acids especially the polyunsaturated fatty acids.The results suggest that this marine diatom may have the potential to produce lipids for biodiesel using the flue gases.
