Background:Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the airways of the lungs, affecting around 5% of the world population and causes a huge economic burden on the society and patients.Thl/Th2 imbalance has been found to contribute an essential element in the progression of allergic asthma, which elevates the serum immunoglobulin E (IgE) and recruits eosinophils to airways.Inhaled allergens often induce allergic asthma via activation of Toll like receptor 4 (TLR4) signaling pathway.Ding Chuang decoction (consisting of HerbaEphedrae, Semen Ginkgo, Semen ArmeniacaeAmarae, et al) has traditionally been used in treating various respiratory diseases including asthma. However, the mechanisms underlying its effects on asthma are not fully understood.
