Compared to most other microscopic algae, diatoms produce larger amounts of oil which can be utilized as biofuel.In the present study diatoms from the temperate zone of India were cultured and their oil content studied at various stages of growth.We discovered that oil exocytose spontaneously from the cells of Diadesmis confervacea.
