Biodiesel production from waste cooking oil(WCO)catalyzed by Candida rugosa lipase in reversed micelles of bis(2-ethylhexyl)sodium sulfosuccinate(AOT)in isooctane was studied.Effects of concentration of AOT,Wo(ratio of water and AOT),buffer pH,initial enzyme concentrations and substrates molar ratio were investigated.The results showed that AOT/isooctane reversed micelle system provided a suitable micro-environment for biodiesel production.The optimum conditions were as follows: the concentration of AOT 160 mmol/L,ratio of water and AOT 9:1,buffer pH 6.5,amount of lipase dosage 2 wt.%(based on WCO weight)and molar ratio of methanol and WCO 3:1.Under the optimum conditions,the maximum methyl ester(ME)content in the reaction mixture reaches 83.9 wt.%after 36h.This high yield,obtained in a relatively short time,justifies further exploration of the potential of this system in biodiesel production.
