Background and purpose: Fatty acid translocase CD36 (FAT/CD36) is a transmembrane glycoprotein that mediates long-chain fatty acid (LCFA) uptake/intracellular transport and also functions as a scavenger receptor.While a closely association between CD36 and the pathogenesis of NAFLD is well-defined, little is known about the role played by the post-translational palmitoylation of CD36 in lipid accumulation or inflammation in hepatic cells.Experimental approach: The palmitoylation sites of human FAT/CD36∶ cys4, cys7, cys464, cys466, were substituted by alanines or serine using mutation approach.
