Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system (CNS).A major determinant of motor deficit in MS patients results from the degeneration and loss of both large and small calibre axons.The molecular mechanisms that underlie axonal degeneration are relatively unexplored in both MS as well as its most commonly used model, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE).We have shown that the axonal growth inhibitor, Nogo-A, plays a central role in the pathophysiology of EAE.
