In this study,chestnut shell,the agricultural residue,was used as the feedstock for bio-ethanol fermentation.Pretreatment methods of hot acid impregnation and steam explosion were compared to investigate the enzymatic hydrolysis efficiencyof the chestnut shell.As a result,sugar obtained from steam exploded chestnut shell(SECS)was 36 g·L-1,which was 1.4 times and 11 times higher than the pretreatment method of hot acid impregnate chestnut shell(HAICS)and un-pretreated chestnut shell(UPCS),respectively.After saccharification,the ethanol fermentation was further investigated using different detoxification methods.
