Recent years,in order to protect the safety of maritime trade channel,China has carried out a large number of reclamation island projects in South China Sea.So calcareous sand,as the main raw material of hydraulic filling project in South China Sea,is drawing many scholars attention around the world. This article presents a macro-meso study on the compression characteristic of calcareous sand with different particle fraction.According to SEM tests,it was found that the particle morphology of calcareous sand has a more irregular shape and obvious angularity than that of standard sand, and compared to fine fraction, coarse particles and middle particles irregular degree, including unevenness and angularity, seems more obvious. And the results of 1-D compression test of calcareous sand with different particle fraction shows that compared to changing middle fraction and fine fractions content, changing coarse fractions content is the most efficient way to reduce calcareous sands compression coefficient. Then further research has been taken to study the effect of coarse fractions content on calcareous sands compression characters under different mass ratio between middle fraction and fine fraction. Finally,an empirical formula is established to conduct an initial evaluation of calcareous sands compression characters and present a reference to improve calcareous sands gradation for the improvement of calcareous sands compression character.
