Objective To investigate the molecular epidemiology of invasive Candida tropicalis isolates in China, and the correlation between diploid sequence types (DSTs) and susceptibility of fluconazole and voriconazole. Methods A total of 53 C.tropicalis isolates from four tertiary hospitals in China were studied, as a sub-collection of 123 C.tropicalis isolates from China Invasive Fungal Surveillance Net (CHIF-NET) 2010 compassing 12 hospitals. All the isolates were identified by sequencing of the internal transcribed spacer region, and further characterized by an improved multilocus sequence typing (MLST) assay to determine their genetic relatedness. The MLST data were further analyzed by constructing the Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Mean (UPGMA) dendrogram and using eBURST.Antifungal susceptibility testing of fluconazole and voriconazole was performed by broth microdilution method according to CLSI documents.
