Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide.Cigarette smoking is the most important risk factor of lung cancer, but high risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infection may play a role in the development of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) among never-smokers.Angiogenesis is a key mediator of NSCLC development. In the present study, to investigate the effects of HPV-16 E6 and E7 oncoproteins on angiogenesis, NSCLC cells (A549 and NCI-H460) were transiently transfected with pEGFP-N1-HPV-16 E6 or 16 E7 constructs, and transfeetion with pEGFP-N1--HPV-16 E6 or E7 mutant or empty vector pEGFP-N1 served as negative controls, and cells exposed to transfection reagent served as mock transfection controls.
