The performance characteristics of orifice meters for four diameter ratios(0.4,0.5,0.55,0.6)with various orifice entrance edge radiuses are evaluated using air as the working fluid.The orifice entrance edge radiuses considered are larger than the maximum allowed radius specified in standard,ISO-5167.Accurate CFD simulations are performed using three kinds ofk-epsilon to model turbulence.Results indicate that,in the three kinds of commonly used k-epsilon model,a Realizable model for pressure field and discharge coefficient of prediction is the most accurate,RNG model predicted velocity field best,and all the prediction results of the standard k-epsilon model are not good enough.The value of the discharge coefficient increase with increment in the orifice entrance edge radius,which induces the measurement results of mass flow rate of 4.47%-16.12% lower than the actual ones for the Reynolds number ranging from 18400 to 90000.
