  This lecture discusses the earliest and the latest best developments of theories for laminated composites, anisotropic structures.It is shown that Lekhnistkii was the Scientist who first, almost 80 years ago, gave significant solutions to problem of multilayered structures by taking into account zig-zag effects, interlaminar continuous stresses as well as through-the-thickness stresses.Analysis were restricted to two-dimensional (or cylindrical bending) cases.The latest developments refer to the so called Best Theory Diagram BTD for laminates structures (beams, plates and shells).BTD consists in a technique to build, for a given problem related to a laminated structures, those best theories which are characterized by: i.minimuum degree of freedom ndof; 2.best accuracy.The two developments are discussed with details.
