Taiwan is situated in the tropical geographical region,hot and humid where is a fit region for mosquitoes distributed.There are 134 species of mosquito identified in the 36,000 Km2 region.Mosquito-borne diseases such as malaria,Japanese encephalitis,lymphatic filariasis,dengue fever have been widely epidemic in Taiwan.We had successfully eliminated malaria,lymphatic filariasis and Japanese encephalitis by pesticides application to control mosquitoes,chemophylaxis to cure malaria and filariasis and vaccine to prevent Japanese encephalitis.But we fail to control dengue fever in some outbreaks in recent year.I would like to share the experience of mosquito-borne diseases and management and new threat of new mosquito-borne diseases to introduce into Taiwan.
