Fatty acid synthase (FAS) is emerging as apotential therapeutic target to treat cancer and obesity.In the course of searching forFAS inhibitory natural product,a MeOH extract of the aerial part of Selaginella tamariscina (Selaginellaceae) exhibited significant inhibitory effect.Bioassay-guided fractionation and purification by using open column chromatography and HPLC afforded three active biflavonoids.They were identified as amentoflavone (1),hinokiflavone (2),and robustaflavone 7"-methyl ether (3) by analysis of NMR and MS data.Compounds 1,2 and 3 inhibited FAS activity with IC50 of 2.2 ± 0.4,13.5 ± 0.9,and 16.3 ± 0.3 mM,respectively.
