The number of existing cable-stayed bridge has been steadily increasing within the last decades. The stay cables of these bridges,as the most critical members, are subjected to degradation effects due to fatigue and corrosion,in addition to extreme events, which may cause considerable reduction of the structural performance levels. This is especially true for existing cable-stayed bridges with parallel wire cables inside a polyethylene sheath that has been injected with Portland cement grout for protection.Efforts towards developing cable evaluation approaches have focused on assessing the condition of the cables and identifying the optimum strategies for cable replacement during their service life in order to maintain the overall safety and integrity of the bridge.
