Adult stem cells are distributed in variety of tissues and the stemness of these cells is maintained by the stem cell "niche".Growing evidence suggests that the cell-cell contact plays an important role in this niche.Most of the cell culture methods break the cell-cell contact by seeding cells at a relatively low density, which result in the failure of stem cell expansion in culture.
