Hydrothermal liquefaction(HTL)has been viewed as a promising means to convert high moisture content biomass feedstocks into biocrude oil.However,the high nitrogen and oxygen content present in the resulting oil limits its applicability and scalability.Utilizing different agents to extract the biocrude oil from the solid and aqueous phase may be one way to improve the biocrude oil yield,enhance the biocrude oil characteristics,and diminish the content of recalcitrant compounds.This study investigated the impact of different extraction agents(toluene,dichloromethane,and acetone)on the physical and chemical characteristics of three different types of biocrude oil produced from high protein,carbohydrate,and lipid content feedstocks.Toluene lead to the highest biocrude oil yield of 9.79%for high protein feedstocks and acetone lead to the highest biocrude oil yield of 23.25%for high carbohydrate-containing feedstocks.
