Based on a high-resolution(0.5° x 0.5° grid) daily observed precipitation dataset for China during 1960-2005, performance of 31 global climate models participating Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5) in simulating a set of indices representing annual precipitation extremes is evaluated over eastern China and western China, respectively. Results show that models have a better performance in the eastern than in the western for all six extreme precipitation indices in terms of spatial pattern and interannual variability.
