  Solid foams possess a cellular microstructure,and are widely used in impact mitigation,energy absorption,cushioning and noise reduction applications.From observations of the static and dynamic compressive responses of anisotropic polyurethane(PU)foam,the deformation characteristics of the foam and its constituent cells are identified,in terms of failure patterns,rate dependence,and sensitivity to direction of loading.
