Recently, lots of efforts have been spared on the air cathode and electrolytes, ignoring the function of binder which possesses the stable ability and adhesion ability between the active materials and the current collector.A thoroughly fresh CMC and CMC-Li binder, with water-soluble and functional conductive characteristics, has been introduced here to mix with CNTs to make air cathodes to solve the peeling off of the active materials and its parasitic reaction into LiF for PVDF in the lithium-air battery.Physical and chemical properties of binders are investigated, including functional group analysis, crystallization, surface morphology, thermal stable properties and electrical conductivities et al..It has been found that the replacement of the conventional inactive PVDF binder by the functional conductive polymer (CMC, CMC-Li) in the cathode, which not only acts as the binder and conductor,but also functions as a host for fast Li-ion insertion/extraction, has demonstrated its effectiveness in improving the cycling stability of the lithium-air cells.
