Zebrafish have emerged as an important model for cancer research and dysregulation of several oncogenic pathways has been shown to induce various cancers.We characterized a 5 kb zebrafish cytokeratin 5 gene (Krt 5) promoter through transgenic EGFP expression.EGFP expression was found not only in skin epithelia, but also in brain and retina.While brain and retina expression is Notch dependent, expression in skin epithelia is not.In adult fish, expression was found mainly in brain ventricular zones and retinal bipolar and rod photo receptor cells.
