Casein kinase 1 (CK1) participates in various cellular processes in eukaryotes, but their function remains largely unknown in higher plants. We have studied the function of Arabidopsis CK1 in the regulation of ethylene biosynthesis by using a combined genetic and biochemical approach.A T-DNA insertion induced null mutation of CK1.1, ck1.1-1 caused characteristic ethylene-specific constitutive responses in etiolated seedlings, with shortened hypocotyls and exaggerated apical hook curvature.
