Mandibular fractures are the most common fractures found in facial trauma patients. The ideal treatment for these fractures is reduction and immobilization of the fracture segments using rigid internal fixation. One of the most predominant complications in mandibular fractures treatment is infection.Infection can lead to nonunion, osteomyelitis, and bone loss. The etiology of infection in mandibular fractures is multifactorial.Instability, failed rigid internal fixation (loose hardware), associated disease teeth, medically compromise patient, patient noncompliance, and delay in treatment have all been implicated.Infection in mandibular fractures needs to be appropriately managed.
