Hop stunt epidemic was incited by HpSVd originated from cultivated grapevines.During the epidemics, HpSVd-grape variant underwent convergent evolution in hops and resulted in a new adaptation mutant, HpSVd-hop, with five nucleotide changes at 25, 26, 54, 193 and 281.In view of "survival of the fittest", it is anticipated that the mutations could have conferred higher replication/accumulation competence in hop.
