Experiments on the fluidization of phosphate ore particles with different mean sizes and densities were carried out in a fluidized bed of 42 mm in diameter and 1 m in height. The experimental results show that the fluidization characteristics of phosphate ore particles are greatly affected by type of particles and the mean size.By measuring the pressure drop across the bed, experimental values of minimum fluidization velocity have been obtained. The phosphate ore particles belonging to Geldart B can be fluidized smoothly while those belonging to Geldart A group with strong viscous force were difficult to fluidize, which was analogous to fluidization of Geldart C.Several correlations of minimum fluidization velocity were used to calculate Umf in comparison with experimental data.
